We are entering that time of year where the temperature starts to go up and down as it begins a cooling trend.
This is the time to start checking your heaters. I generally recommend replacing heaters instead of using the same one from last year. It’s been my experience that when a piece of equipment has been turned off for months, it can have issues sooner or later when it is turned back on. The weather can be unpredictable, so handling this before a cold night can be the difference between having some loss and a happy aquarium.
This is also a good time to check your emergency supplies, such as battery-operated air bubble machines that keep oxygen in the tank when the power goes out. The Penn-Plax Silent Air B11 battery operated air pump has been a workhorse in our industry for quite some time.
Also look at your food. If it has been inside your stand for a while, consider replacing it. If you use an automatic feeder, use the opportunity to check and/or replace the battery.
In general, take this opportunity to do an overall check of your aquarium to make sure that everything is in working order. this gives you a chance to replace any non-functioning equipment before you need it.Share This!
